9C Homework set July 7th for Mr Pryer

Complete the quiz that appears from the internet link below. When you finish, if possible click on and print the ‘print my results’ page which shows which questions you got right and which you got wrong. If not possible (on some PCs it doesn’t work) just take a print of the screen showing your overall score. Some of the questions are about sampling which is an A Level topic as opposed to a GCSE one, so don’t worry if you get these wrong.

12C Cover work for Mr Pryer for Friday 21 March Day 5

Please make sure you have completed the work set by Mr Pryer in his previous blog. If you have finished this work, please use this lesson to tackle some questions from the Marketing past paper booklet I have given you – if you are unsure, have a go at planning answers which you can then check with me.

The questions on niche and mass marketing would be good practice ones to have a go at.

Please pop in to Nash if you have any questions.

I Year Mock Exam Revision Resources

As the I Year Mock Exam week approaches, here are some links to some on-line revision resources that may be useful. In addition, don’t forget that revision guides and revision workbooks are still available at just £2 each (£4 total). To purchase these, the student simply needs to hand their payment in to the office (not their teacher) along with their name/tutor group and confirmation that the payment is for Business Studies revision guides and workbook. Workbooks and guides will then be issued to them via their teacher or group tutor.

On-line resources

Zondle Games
Section 1 Spotting an opportunity
Section 2 Showing enterprise
Section 3 Putting a business idea into practice
Section 4 Making the start-up effective
Section 5 Understanding the economic context

Quizlet
Section 1 Spotting an opportunity
Section 2 Showing enterprise
Section 3 Putting a business idea into practice
Section 4 Making the start-up effective
Section 5 Understanding the economic context

Business Studies Online
Unit 1 Theory presentations

Unit 1 Games/Activities

The mock exam will consist of a full Unit 1 multiple choice past exam paper, plus a range of longer written questions so students should also review their previous half-term assessments and remind themselves of the importance of explaining consequences of their points using connectives and ensuring their answers contain context by relating them to the type of business in the question.

In addition to the resources above, a full glossary of terms for each section covered in Unit 1 is available on the tab ‘Glossary of Terms for I Years’ above.

Should you have any questions, please do get in touch.

12C cover work for IDP

I’m afraid I need to be away again.

In my absence please do as follows:

Share out the AQA AS textbooks at the back of the room, and go to Chapter 23.
Take some notes on all of the material in this chapter up until the end of the theory at the bottom of p283.
Please don’t wander off with the textbooks, the other Year 12 class will also need them.

Thanks for your continued patience and support at a difficult time for me.

12A cover work for IDP

I’m afraid I need to be away again. Please could you do the following.

Share out the AQA AS textbooks at the back of the room, and go to Chapter 23.
Read the sections under the blue headings on pages 272 to 275 up to Capacity Utilisation and take some notes.
The Capacity Utilisation Section from p275 to p279 was covered on Friday. Geography Field Trippers should make sure they cover this too, but non- Field Trippers who were here on Friday should be able to move past that section.
All students should then look at the remainder of the chapter on matching production with demand from pages 279 to 283, including the material on sub-contracting.
Please don’t wander off with the textbooks, the other Year 12 class will also need them.

This should be enough for Day 1 P5 and D2 P1.

Thanks for your continued patience and understanding at a difficult time for me.

Hi 13C and 13D,

I won’t be in today. Please could you do as follows which should be a couple of lessons work for 13D and 3 lessons work for 13C. If I’m still away then I’ll liase with ERB to set more work. Please keep checking with her or you can contact me via Twitter as I’m unlikely to be on work e-mail.

Firstly for 13C only (as 13D covered this last week) please look at this presentation on Operational Objectives and take noes for your folder : http://www.tutor2u.net/blog/index.php/business-studies/comments/revision-presentation-operational-objectives

Secondly for both groups please do the following:

Research in to Economies of Scale
1. What does the term Economy of Scale mean?
2. Find out about some of the specific different types of economies of scale – purchasing, managerial, technical, financial, – what do they mean and illustrate with a simple example (made up if you wish as opposed to based on a real business)
3. What are diseconomies of scale and how do these occur?
4. Draw a diagram illustrating the impact of economies and diseconomies of scale on unit cost as a firm’s level of output grows
5. Explain why economies of scale matter to blue-chip companies.

You may find this presentation helpful : http://www.tutor2u.net/blog/index.php/business-studies/comments/revision-presentation-economies-of-scale-resource-mix

Ms Bailey A2 Business Studies 13D cover work Wednesday 2 October

As mentioned in class, I will not be in college on Wednesday 2 October as I will be attending the Tutor2u briefing on the BUSS4 China research theme – and hopefully bringing back lots of useful data and ideas for us. There will therefore not be a lesson period 2. However, you should spend equivalent time doinng the following:

1. Complete any work not finished last lesson in your handout about stakeholders of Asda.

2. Identify and research 2 large businesses that export to China – find out and write down any relevant details about what they export, and to where, and any related news stories. Twitter can be a good source of information – look at #BUSS4 or follow @tutor2u – or look at Tutor2u’s blog posts on the BUSS4 research theme.

I will expect to see both pieces of work in our next lesson on Day 8.
